In the last fifty years Iwao has made several hundred woodblock prints featuring birds. Ten of these bird prints are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Owls (prints 1-7) are his specialty, drawn in a creative way, and printed on rough, handmade paper which often contains fragments of tree bark. Iwao’s choice of paper, style and woodblock printing was influenced by the Japanese Folk Art movement which promoted the continued use of traditional Japanese printmaking practices.
